BeanSprouts

Growing

Beansprouts are grown from mung bean seeds which we source from Asia. We grow our beansprouts via a hydroponic method, which involves the use of potable water only, no soil, fertiliser or pesticides are used during any stage of the process. The seeds are cultivated in containers within specialised growing rooms designed to provide dark, warmth and water through mechanised irrigation machines and temperature controlled rooms. It normally takes 6-7 days to grow beansprouts from mung beans. Once the seeds have been propagated they are packed and distributed to our purchasers who are all currently mainly wholesale suppliers.

We produce an average of 50-60 tonnes of beansprouts per week for retail, catering and food processing sectors. We operate with 20 full time employees and we focus on customer loyalty and continuously providing a high-quality product and service. We are a small team but work very closely and well together, supporting each other when necessary and offering advice and help when needed.

Mung Beans and Beansprouts

Mung beans are widely grown across Asia, and have been a part of the Asian diet for thousands of years. They are a high source of nutrients, including manganese, potassium, folate, copper, zinc and various B vitamins. Mung beans can be used in many different forms such as beans, dried into a powder to make bean noodles and sprouted. Due to the mung beans, high nutrient and amino acid content, they are thought to be useful in defending against heart disease, cancer, inflammation, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, infection and obesity. Sprouted mung beans are thought to improve the nutritional and medicinal qualities so it is always advised to eat sprouted mung beans if possible.

The Benefits

High Cholesterol and Heart Disease

Antioxidants in mung beans act like potent free-radicals scavengers which reverse damaged blood vessels and reduces inflammation. The anti- inflammatory properties help keep arteries clear and maintain circulation.

High Blood Pressure

Peptides found in mung beans stop blood vessels from constricting and therefore lowers blood pressure.

Anti-cancer

Flavonoids (antioxidants) lower oxidative stress which can contribute to cancer formation.

Anti-diabetic

Eating beansprouts can lower blood glucose, the body increases glucose tolerance and insulin responsiveness to help control diabetes.

Increased Immunity

Beansprouts help increase immunity and fights against bacteria, viruses, rashes colds, coughs and many more. Beansprouts are absorbed well in the digestive tract and leaves a balance of good bacteria in the gut. This also helps with immune defence.

Obesity

Mung beans are high in fibre and protein and therefore is one of the most filling foods. Regular eating of mung beans and beansprouts will therefore reduce food intake and promote weight loss. They help with symptoms of IBS and constipation thanks to their high fibre content.

Folate, Magnesium, Vitamin B

One cup of beansprouts can give you your 100% recommended daily allowance of folate. Folate is used in the body to make DNA which is used for cell and tissue growth, hormone balance, cognitive function and reproduction. Keeping folate levels during pregnancy is very important as it aids prevention of early births, neural tube defects and even termination. Magnesium is needed to control stress, manage pain, maintain digestive processes, maintain heart function and repair muscle tissue. Vitamin B, folate and magnesium help control hormones, they reduce the severity of menstrual cramps, headaches, mood swings, fatigue and muscle pains.

About Us

The Future

We take pride in our product and the achievements we have made during the growth of the company. In February 2017, we proudly achieved Grade AA BRC accreditation which was a great accomplishment for the whole team. We utilise new advances in technologies and education to consistently develop as a company and produce a high quality, delicious beansprout for our consumers. We keep up to date with the industry and always ensure we follow all food safety requirements and regulations. We hope to continue with our high standards and production of a quality product while we improve, develop and grow the company further. The next venture will hopefully be to expand into the retail sector and produce a high-quality retail pack of beansprouts which will be accessible for all.

Transport

We operate a fleet of 7 vehicles and 4 trailers and deliver all over the country everyday offering the best service we can for our customers. With organised planning and forward thinking we strive for successful, timely deliveries. All deliveries are made in temperature controlled environments to ensure the beansprouts are delivered in the best condition possible. Looking after the beansprouts correctly and keeping them in a controlled chilled environment allows for the quality of the beansprouts to be maintained.
